OYO GIVES ACCOUNT OF DONATIONS TOWARDS THE FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19

The Oyo State Government said it has expended the sum of Two Billion, Seven Hundred and Seventy-Nine Million (N2, 779,000,000) in a bid to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in the State.


The State COVID-19 Task Force gave the account through the Commissioner for Finance, Akinola Ojo, during a press briefing held at the Governor’s office, on Tuesday, June 23.


Ojo said that “the amount was spent on setting up of treatment and isolation centres, procurement of palliatives and seedlings for a section of the residents and farmers, as well as, on procurement of ambulances and the security of the State's borders, among others”.


The Commissioner highlighted how the fund was spent as thus:


N900 million for the procurement of palliatives for the vulnerable and farmers


N370 million for the rehabilitation of infectious disease centre at Olodo 


N450 million for security and surveillance at various State borders


N118 million to support the University College Hospital (UCH)


N614 million for the purchase of reagents, test kits and other medical consumables


N321 million for purchase of ambulances amongst other expenditures


“A total amount of N378 million was donated into the State endowment fund, with other financial contributions that could be estimated to N1.177 billion, and also an expectancy of about N100 million to the State by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control”, the Commissioner revealed. 


He noted that funds donated to the State were still intact as expenses incurred are solely on the State Government’s account.


The Commissioner added that a sum of N15, 000 hazard allowances have been approved for each health worker and arrears will be paid from March 2020.


He also said journalists and other front line workers might be considered for hazard allowance after due consideration.


Earlier, Eonsintelligence in its publication, on Tuesday, June 23, reported that Oyo State Government had modified the resumption date of schools slated for June 29.

Following the new arrangement, only teachers are to resume on June 29th, while students in terminal classes resume a week later.
