Plateau Killings: Police Arrest Key Suspects, Recover Illegal Arms in Renewed Crackdown

The Nigeria Police Force has intensified efforts to bring perpetrators of recent attacks in Plateau State to justice, with the arrest of three more suspects and the recovery of illegal firearms in a series of coordinated intelligence-led operations.

In a major breakthrough, operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) on May 3 apprehended Abubakar Jibrin of Kalone Community, Shendam Local Government Area, Plateau State. Acting on credible intelligence at about 4:30 PM, the police discovered an SMG rifle with an empty magazine hidden in Jibrin’s residence following a confession obtained during his arrest.

Further operations conducted on May 4 in Barkin Ladi led to the recovery of two fabricated revolver rifles, with the cache linked to a known suspect, Ismail Danjuma, who is currently in custody. Danjuma is said to be cooperating with ongoing investigations connected to the spate of killings that have shaken parts of the state.

These operations are part of a wider crackdown by the Nigeria Police Force targeting criminal conspiracy, gunrunning, and unlawful possession of firearms, which authorities believe have played a central role in the violence witnessed in Plateau communities.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, reaffirmed the Force’s resolve to bring all perpetrators of the Plateau killings to book. He called on residents to remain calm and continue providing actionable information to support the Police in their peace restoration efforts.

“These arrests underscore our commitment to pursuing every lead and ensuring that no individual involved in these heinous crimes escapes justice,” the IGP stated.

The Nigeria Police has assured that investigations remain ongoing and more operations are underway to dismantle the networks fueling violence in Plateau and other affected regions.
