PLATEAU STATE IS USING DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY TO FIGHT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19
As the coronavirus pandemic spreads across the globe, Plateau state is fighting the war against COVID-19 with the use of digital technology.
Plateau State Information and Communication Development Agency have planted CCTV cameras in all major borders across the state to monitor the infiltration of people into the state.
The CCTV provides real-time live feeds of activities happening at the borders.
According to the Director-General of PICTDA, David Daser, the CCTV became necessary to monitor movement into the state.
“When we had so much of reports of infiltrations, we planted cameras and then we have the borders view directly from here,” he said.
The CCTV also solves the problem of sharp practices of law enforcement officers as they are also being monitored. “The activities of the security agencies are being watched. As you can see, this their post, and then whatever happens at the border, we have a glimpse of what it is they are doing, what kind of car they allow in and what type of car they stop from coming in.
“So somehow, we have eyes on all the borders, that way security men are being checked cause whatever shady deals are that happens at the border, they know somebody is watching them.”

The Agency is currently working on building a robust process with the security handlers so that once they notice illegal entry or suspicious activities, relevant law enforcement officers can be duly notified so they can accost the suspects as soon as possible.
“We are currently working on a process of security to see that once we have an infiltration through the borders because we are seeing them here in real-time online, we are able to make phone calls to the next checkpoint to make further assessment of whoever that is coming into the state.”
According to NCDC, Plateau state as recorded three confirmed cases of Coronavirus as of May 3.
