ONE FEARED KILLED AS SECURITY OPERATIVES CLASH WITH IMN PROTESTERS IN ABUJA
One person was feared killed in a clash between security operatives and members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) on Monday at Maitama, Abuja.
Members of the IMN were protesting against the detention of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, and his wife, Zeenat, when the incident occurred.
It was gathered that the deceased, identified as Muhsin Abdallah, was killed by stray bullets fired by security operatives while other IMN protesters sustained severe injuries of varying degrees.
IMN spokesperson, Ibrahim Musa, claimed that “the police fired at the Shi’ites procession killing Muhsin Abdallah and injuring scores of others.”
However, in a statement signed by the FCT Police Spokesperson, Mariam Yusuf, she said some members of IMN went on rampage, destroyed public infrastructures, and attacked innocent citizens and security operatives.
“Unfortunately, the members of the disbanded sect went on a rampage destroying public property and attacking innocent citizens including Police Officers with stones and other dangerous objects.
“In view of the above, the Command wishes to state that it will not condone any form of attack on its personnel, equipment or other public property,” the statement read in part.
