Police Arrest 51 Suspected Thugs in Major Kano Metropolis Raid
The Kano State Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in its intensified crackdown on thuggery and violent crime, arresting 51 suspects and recovering various dangerous weapons and illicit drugs during a three-day intelligence-led operation in the Kano metropolis.
The coordinated clearance operations, which took place from Friday, June 13 to Sunday, June 15, 2025, targeted criminal hideouts across key areas including Kano Municipal, Dala, Gwale, and Tarauni LGAs—specifically Kofar Mata, Zage, Kurna, Rijiyar Lemo, Dorayi, Hotoro, and Sheka Quarters.
According to the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, the operation underscores the Command’s commitment to combating urban violence, curbing cult-like group activities, and restoring peace across affected communities.
Among the suspects arrested were notorious individuals identified by aliases such as “Shamakin,” “Semigo,” “Maibobo,” and “Maitakalmi.” Recovered items include machetes, locally made weapons, and hard drugs.
The Commissioner warned against the public display of weapons under the guise of traditional events like “Gangi,” and the glamorization of violence on platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram, which he said fuels youth involvement in crime.
He urged parents and guardians to monitor their children’s activities and avoid shielding them from justice. He also cautioned blacksmiths against fabricating weapons for these individuals, stating that anyone found complicit would face full prosecution.
The Command reaffirmed its resolve to sustain the offensive and ensure the safety of lives and property in Kano State.
