POLICE ARREST TEENAGE HERDSMAN WITH AK-47 RIFLE IN IMEKO-AFON LGA OF OGUN STATE

The Ogun State has arrested a teenage herdsman with an AK-47 rifle in the Iwoye-Ketu area of the Imeko -Afon Local Government of the State.

The suspect, identified as Mohammed, was arrested on Tuesday following credible intelligence that two young Fulani men were sighted at Oha forest with heavy ammunition.

In a statement by Abimbola Oyeyemi, the State’s police PRO, this prompted the Divisional Police Officer of Imeko to immediately deploy security operatives to the scene. Local hunters and members of the vigilance and So Safe Corps group also stormed the forest to effect the arrest.

The statement reads, “After hours of combing the forest, one Mohammed was seen hiding in the bush with one AK-47 rifle, and he was promptly arrested.

“The arrested armed boy is strongly suspected to be a member of kidnap syndicates who has been terrorising the area for quite some time now.

“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for discreet investigation.

“The CP also directed that the entire forest be properly combed with the view to apprehending other members of his gang.”
