POLICE ARRESTS TWO OFFICERS OVER THE KILLING OF A TEENAGER

The Police Command in Lagos has arrested two police officers who were reported to have killed a 16-year old girl identified as Tina Ezekwe, at Iyana-Oworo area of Lagos State.


This was contained in a statement issued and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, on Friday, May 29, 2020.


The officers are Theophilus Otobo, an Assistant Superintendent of Police and Oguntoba Olamigoke, a Police Inspector attached to Bariga Police Station.

Elkana said that as at the time of compiling the statement, the cause of the shooting had not been ascertained. 

However, the two officers involved are in the custody of the Force.

The incident happened on Tuesday night when Tina Ezekwe, a senior secondary 2 student, was hit by a stray bullet shot by the said police officers.

Tina was rushed to a nearby hospital where she died two days later. 


According to the police spokesman, a 35-year-old man was also injured and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.


He added that the offenders would be investigated and if found guilty, would be charged to court. 


The Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Hakeem Odumosu, condoled with the family and friends of the deceased. 


He also assured them that the offenders would be brought to justice and made to face the wrath of the law.


He said that thorough investigation is ongoing to get to the root of the matter, adding that he has zero tolerance for impunity.
