WE WILL PRESENT 15 WITNESSES TO PROVE N4 BILLION THEFT CHARGES AGAINST OBIANO - EFCC
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced its intention to present 15 witnesses in the prosecution of former Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, over alleged N4 billion theft charges. This revelation came from the EFCC's prosecuting counsel, Slyvanus Tahir (SAN), who disclosed the information shortly after Obiano's arraignment on nine counts before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Following Obiano's plea of not guilty before Justice Inyang Ekwo, Tahir expressed the EFCC's readiness to proceed with the case. He emphasized the availability of 15 witnesses equipped with documentary evidence to substantiate the charges against the defendant, requesting a remand order from the court.
The charges leveled by the EFCC assert that Obiano diverted Anambra State's security votes amounting to N4,008,573,350 during his tenure as governor from 2014 to 2022. Specific allegations include the indirect transfer of N1.2 billion from the state security vote account to an unrelated entity, Moment of Peace Ventures, through his Private Principal Secretary. Additionally, Obiano is accused of transferring N860,716,200 and N659,112,900 from the state security vote account to Youdooh Ventures and Nazdal Ventures, respectively, through his Principal Private Secretary, Wille Nwokoye, for reasons unrelated to security affairs.
