Police Clash with Kidnappers in Katsina, Resulting in 2 Deaths, 4 Injuries
At least 10 kidnapped victims have been rescued by operatives of the Katsina State Police Command, according to an official statement.
During the operation, four of the rescued victims sustained gunshot wounds from the bandits' attack and were immediately rushed to the hospital. Tragically, two of them succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment.
Police Spokesman ASP Abubakar Sadiq, in a statement released Wednesday, confirmed that efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects as investigations continue.
The incident occurred on December 24, 2024, around 8:30 p.m., when suspected bandits armed with dangerous weapons attacked a commercial vehicle near Kwanar Makera along the Katsina-Magama Jibia road in Jibia LGA. The attackers fired sporadically and attempted to kidnap all 10 occupants of the vehicle.
Upon receiving the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer in Jibia swiftly led a team of operatives to the scene. The officers engaged the bandits in a gunfight, successfully thwarted the kidnapping attempt, and rescued all 10 victims.
The Commissioner of Police for Katsina State, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, praised the officers for their exceptional bravery and commitment. He urged them to maintain their efforts and encouraged members of the public to report any suspected criminal activities to the nearest police station for prompt action.
