Police, Military Launch Major Search-and-Rescue Operation for Abducted Kebbi Schoolgirls

Security forces have launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation after armed bandits abducted 25 students from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu LGA of Kebbi State.

The attack occurred around 4:00 a.m. on 17 November 2025, when heavily armed bandits stormed the school, firing sporadically. Police tactical units deployed at the school engaged the attackers, but the bandits had already breached the school fence and taken the students from their hostel.

During the assault, one resident, Hassan Makuku, was shot dead, while another, Ali Shehu, sustained a gunshot injury to the hand.

Following the incident, additional police tactical teams, military personnel, and vigilantes have been deployed and are currently combing suspected bandit routes and surrounding forests in an effort to rescue the abducted students and apprehend the attackers.

Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property. He urged residents to remain calm, stay vigilant, and continue supporting security operations to maintain peace and stability in the state.
