NIGERIANS WITHOUT NIN RISK 14 YEARS IMPRISONMENT

The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami, on Thursday reiterated that Nigerians without the National Identity Numbers (NIN) risk spending 14 years in prison as stated in the country's constitution. 


Citizens who transact business like open a bank account, pay taxes, etc without having NIN are culpable of commiting a criminal offence, punishable by imprisonment Pantami said.


The minister who disclosed this on Thursday at the weekly State House Briefing in Abuja said as of Wednesday, 51 million National Identity Numbers have been fully enrolled.


The minister added that 189 million Subscriber Identification Modules have been registered in the country out of which 150 million registrations have been completed.
