Police Nab Suspected Cultists, Armed Robber; Recover Firearms in Delta State
Delta State Police Command has arrested three suspects, including alleged cult members and a native doctor, in separate operations that led to the recovery of illegal firearms and other dangerous weapons across the state.
On June 18, 2025, at about 12:20 p.m., operatives of the Eagle-Net Surveillance Team, stationed in Ughelli North Local Government Area, intercepted a black Toyota Corolla with registration number RSH 90 RC during a routine stop-and-search operation along Otokutu Bridge, Warri.
The vehicle, driven by one Telvin Richmond, 27, of Opete by Otokutu, and accompanied by one Frank Obiorah, 26, of the same address, was subjected to a thorough search. During the search, police recovered a locally made cut-to-size gun, two yellow hand bands inscribed with "NBM" (Neo Black Movement), a battle axe, and a wooden pistol concealed within the vehicle's door compartments.
Preliminary investigations revealed that both suspects are members of the Aiye Confraternity. The prime suspect, Telvin Richmond, confessed to purchasing the firearm in 2024 for N87,000 from another suspect currently on the run. Both individuals remain in police custody as investigations continue.
In a separate operation on June 14, 2025, at about 6:30 a.m., officers from the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad, acting on credible intelligence, stormed the residence of one Okonji Chimeze, a 47-year-old native doctor residing at Umuehe Quarter, Ibusa.
A search warrant was executed at the suspect's residence, leading to the recovery of two automatic pump-action rifles and a cutlass hidden inside the ceiling of his room. The suspect was immediately arrested, and the recovered weapons were taken into custody.
The Delta State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to combating cultism, illegal arms possession, and other forms of criminality in the state, urging residents to continue providing useful information to aid ongoing security operations.
