Police Rescue 4 Chinese Nationals, 2 Officers After Deadly Ambush in Abia State

Operatives of the Abia State Police Command, in a coordinated operation with the military and other security agencies, have rescued four Chinese expatriates and two police officers following a deadly ambush in Isuikwuato Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the rescue followed a distress report of an armed attack on a convoy transporting Chinese workers and their police escorts to a company site at Agukwu-Amaya, Ndundu community, Uturu.

Tragically, the attack resulted in the death of two Chinese nationals — identified as Mr. Quan and Mr. Cai — as well as Inspector Audu Saidu, one of the escorting officers. The assailants also made away with Inspector Saidu’s service rifle.

In response, a joint team of police and military personnel swiftly launched a search and rescue operation. Three of the Chinese nationals were recovered unharmed, while one was found with injuries. Additionally, Inspector Uba Ahmed was rescued with a gunshot wound to his leg. Both victims are currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Abakaliki and are reportedly responding well.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, has condemned the attack and assured that all efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible. He also called on the public to remain vigilant, go about their lawful activities without fear, and report any suspicious movements or individuals to security agencies.
