Pope Francis Remains in Critical but Stable Condition Amid Pneumonia Battle- Vatican

Pope Francis, 88, remains in critical but stable condition as he battles pneumonia in both lungs, the Vatican announced on Tuesday. The pontiff has now been hospitalized for 12 days.

“The Holy Father’s clinical condition remains critical but stable,” the Vatican’s statement confirmed, adding that there have been no acute respiratory episodes, and his hemodynamic parameters, including heart rate and blood pressure, continue to be stable.

Francis was admitted on February 14 after experiencing breathing difficulties. Over the weekend, he suffered asthmatic respiratory attacks that required high levels of oxygen and blood transfusions to address anaemia.

On Tuesday evening, the pope underwent a scheduled follow-up CT scan to monitor the bilateral pneumonia, with the Vatican noting that his prognosis remains reserved.

Despite his fragile health, the leader of 1.4 billion Catholics worldwide has continued to stay engaged with his Church duties. “In the morning, after receiving the Eucharist, he resumed work activities,” the statement added.

The Vatican’s medical team has cautioned that it will take time for the drug treatments to show positive effects, and the pope’s recovery remains closely monitored.
