President Tinubu Appoints New Service Chiefs, Reshuffles Military Leadership

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a major shake-up in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces as part of renewed efforts to strengthen the country’s security architecture.

According to an official statement from the Presidency, General Olufemi Oluyede has been appointed as the new Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding General Christopher Musa. The President also named Major General W. Shaibu as the new Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.


The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major General E.A.P. Undiendeye, will continue in his current role.

President Tinubu expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs for their selfless service and commitment to national security, commending their leadership and contributions to the stability of the country.


He further urged the newly appointed Service Chiefs to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and unity in the discharge of their duties, emphasizing the need for renewed vigilance and collaboration across the Armed Forces.

All appointments, the statement noted, take immediate effect.
