President Tinubu congratulates Adeleke on Osun re-election, urges unity and good governance

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on his victory in the state’s governorship election, urging him to use his second term to promote unity and accelerate development across the state.

Tinubu conveyed his congratulations to Adeleke in a statement issued on Sunday, August 16, 2026, by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The President said he personally spoke with Adeleke by telephone earlier in the day to congratulate him on his electoral victory, describing the outcome as a reflection of the confidence placed in the governor by the people of Osun State.

Tinubu urged the governor-elect to extend his leadership beyond political affiliations and work towards bringing all residents together for the advancement of the state.

According to the President, Adeleke’s second term should focus on strengthening unity, stability and the social and economic development of Osun State, irrespective of how residents voted during the election.

The President also commended the other candidates who participated in the contest, noting that their involvement contributed to the growth of Nigeria’s democratic process.

He said the election result demonstrated the choice of the electorate and reaffirmed the resilience of democracy in the country.

Tinubu further praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for their roles in ensuring that the election was conducted peacefully and transparently, ultimately producing a clear winner.
