SECURITY BEEFED UP AT EDO GOVERNMENT HOUSE OVER SHAIBU'S PLANNED RETURN
Heavy security presence has been deployed around EDO State Government House, following reports that Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu plans to resume office. Shaibu's impeachment by the State House of Assembly was recently annulled by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
The court ruling ordered Shaibu's reinstatement, but the state government has failed to comply, citing a pending stay of execution appeal. As a result, security has been beefed up around the government house, with only security vehicles allowed access to Osadebe Avenue.
Civil servants and visitors were seen trekking long distances to their destinations after parking their vehicles by the roadside.
The state government has alleged that Shaibu plans to forcefully enter the government house, which could lead to chaos.
However, Shaibu's camp has denied these allegations, maintaining that he is a peace-loving individual who believes in the rule of law. They claim that Shaibu's return is rightful, as he remains the de jure and de facto Deputy Governor of Edo State.
The situation remains tense, with political stakeholders watching unfolding events closely.
