Super Eagles Face Rwanda Without Key Players Nwabali, Lookman
The Super Eagles have unveiled their starting lineup for Monday’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Rwanda, with some key players absent.
Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali is unavailable following the loss of his father, while star forward Victor Osimhen has also been omitted from the lineup as the team explores alternative attacking options.
According to an announcement via Soar Super Eagles on X (formerly Twitter), Maduka Okoye will start in goal, shielded by a defensive line featuring Bright Osayi-Samuel, Jordan Osho, captain William Troost-Ekong, and Bruno Onyemaechi.
The midfield trio consists of Frank Onyeka, Ismaheel Yusuf, and Tom Dele-Bashiru, combining defensive coverage with creative playmaking.
In the attacking third, Simon Moses, Kelechi Iheanacho, and Victor Boniface will lead the charge. Boniface, in particular, will be aiming to net his first international goal for Nigeria.
The Super Eagles will face Rwanda's Amavubi at 5 PM Nigerian time in the final Group D match of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers. While Nigeria has already secured a place in Morocco 2025 and clinched the top spot in the group, Head Coach Augustine Eguavoen has assured fans that the team remains focused on achieving victory.
Despite the absence of Nwabali, defender Olaoluwa Aina, and winger Ademola Lookman, the coach emphasized the squad's depth and readiness to deliver a strong performance.
