SUSPECTED MILITANTS ATTACK SECURITY OPERATIVES ON PATROL IN RIVERS, KILL POLICE OFFICER

Intel available to Eons Intelligence confirms that Etim Ofonmbuk, a police inspector was shot dead on 17th January 2021, during an attack perpetrated by suspected militants on police patrol teams at Captain Amangala, Borokiri town in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.


The attack was perpetrated on patrol teams which comprised of security operatives from Borokiri division in Phalga on routine patrol of the area.


Eons Intelligence gathered that the attackers numbering about 17 who were armed with AK 47 and LAR rifles arrived at the scene in two Camry cars and an ash-coloured jeep with an unknown registration number.


The assailants opened fire on the security operatives as well as a patrol vehicle with Registration number NPF244C parked at the scene.

A police officer identified as Inspector Ofonmbuk was killed during the encounter while Inspector Philip Nteijah sustained a gunshot injury on his left hand.


The criminals carted away two AK 47 rifles belonging to the police. About 85 empty shells of AK 47 rifles used by the hoodlums were also picked at the scene.


The remains of the slain police operative have been deposited at BMH mortuary while the injured policeman is undergoing medical treatment.


Meanwhile, Joseph Mukan, State commissioner of police, has ordered a full investigation into the matter with a view to bringing the perpetrators to book.
