TEN NIGERIANS ARRESTED OVER HUMAN TRAFFICKING IN ITALY
Ten Nigerians have been reportedly arrested and detained by the Italian Police over alleged human trafficking, Daily Mail reported.
The suspects, comprising of five women and five men were detained by the Italian Police after they were accused of human trafficking and usage of voodoo rituals.
The accused lure their victims to Italy with promises of jobs, the news media disclosed.
Another news media, Legit, reported that the victims of the traffickers paid about $28,000 (N10,851,400) each as trip fare from Nigeria to Libya where they crossed the Mediterranean Sea to Italy.
According to the police in Catania, the victims were made to take an oath before leaving Nigeria to ensure that they do not speak out or flee, and pay back the expenses when they get to Europe.
It added that the suspects are backed up by other trafficking rings in Nigeria, Libya, Italy, and other European countries.
The police noted that investigations are ongoing to arrest other suspects.
Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman of Nigerians Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) had earlier, via her Twitter account, revealed that a traffic victim, a 23-year-old Nigeria single mother, Omolola Ajayi, has been rescued.
Omolola was trafficked to be a sex slave in Lebanon.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa said the single mother was rescued by the Nigerian Government after she cried out for help.
