Terror in Fika: Bandits Kill Seven, Injure Eleven in Ngalda Market Attack

Suspected bandits attacked the Ngalda cattle and main market in Fika Local Government Area of Yobe State, killing at least seven people—mostly traders—and injuring eleven others.

The attack occurred around 6 p.m. on Monday when the assailants stormed the busy weekly market, firing sporadically and robbing shops and cattle traders.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Yobe, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed that the attack was carried out by a six-member armed robbery gang led by one Datti Alhaji Dadji from Ngalda town. According to Abdulkarim, the assailants made away with approximately N16.5 million before being confronted by local security forces.

"In response, residents and security operatives mobilized and managed to kill three of the robbers, while the remaining three fled with injuries," he said. "Following a swift operation, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and his team raided the residence of Alhaji Dadji, where they recovered a locally made pistol with three cartridges. He has been arrested and is currently under interrogation."

Dauda Yakubu Damazai, a social media aide to the Fika Local Government Chairman, also confirmed the incident. He revealed that the injured victims were rushed to the General Hospital in Fika for medical treatment.

"The council chairman, Hon. Audu Bukar Gadaka, has visited the victims and expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. He also prayed for the quick recovery of those hospitalized," Damazai stated.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, CP Garba Ahmed, has ordered a thorough investigation into the attack and urged residents to remain calm. He assured that efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the General Hospital Fika for autopsy, while investigations continue.
