Troops Ambush, Kill Bandit in Kwara, Recover AK-47 and Motorcycle

Troops of the 22 Armoured Brigade operating from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Edu Local Government Area have killed an armed bandit during an ambush along the Lema–Daban Lema road.

Captain Stephen Nwanko, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the Brigade, confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday. He said the operation followed credible intelligence on the movement of criminal elements in the area.

According to him, the soldiers laid an ambush and made contact with the suspects, leading to a gun duel. The superior firepower of the troops forced the bandits to retreat, leaving behind one of their members who was neutralised.

Recovered items include an AK-47 rifle, a magazine with 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a motorcycle. The body of the deceased has been handed over to relevant authorities for further action.

The Army noted that the operation is part of sustained efforts to rid Kwara’s northwestern corridor of banditry and safeguard rural communities. It also reaffirmed its resolve to intensify security operations and protect law-abiding citizens.
