ISLAMIC STATE TERRORIST GROUP CLAIMS RESPONSIBILITY FOR DEADLY ATTACK IN VIENNA

The Islamic State (IS) terrorist group on Tuesday, November 3, said it was responsible for Monday's deadly attack in Vienna, the Austrian capital.


The IS group in a statement on Tuesday, November 3, described the perpetrator as a 'soldier of the caliphate', and identified him as Abu Dujana al-Abani.


In a separate statement, accompanied by a photograph of the armed assailant, the IS group said; "a gun attack on Monday by an Islamic State fighter in the city of Vienna."


The assailant was killed by the police shortly after opening fire in the vicinity of a synagogue in Vienna. 


The police say he was likely the only shooter involved in the attack which left about four persons dead and more than a dozen brutally injured.


According to the Minister of Interior in Austria, Karl Nehammer, the perpetrator was wearing a fake suicide vest whilst he carries out the attack.


The Austrian authorities revealed that the assailant was arrested in 2019 when heading to Syria in order to join the IS group.


He was said to be in his mid 20s and holds both North  Macedonian and Austrian nationalities.
