Troops Arrest Gunrunner, Recover Arms and Ammunition in Plateau

Troops of 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, under the Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP), have recorded fresh operational gains in Plateau State with the arrest of a suspected gunrunner and the recovery of arms and ammunition during intelligence-led operations.

The operations, conducted on Thursday, December 19, 2025, form part of sustained efforts to rid the Joint Operations Area of illicit weapons and ensure a peaceful Yuletide season across the state.

In the early hours of the day, troops raided a suspected criminal hideout at Gwender Village in Bokkos Local Government Area.

Although the suspects reportedly fled shortly before the arrival of security forces, a detailed search of the location led to the recovery of one locally fabricated AK-47 rifle with a magazine, one locally made pistol, and several rounds of ammunition of different calibres.

In a separate but related operation, troops, working in collaboration with an intelligence agency’s tactical team, set up a snap checkpoint at Mairana in Mangu Local Government Area. During the operation, a suspect was intercepted while conveying two boxes of ammunition containing a total of 1,400 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

The suspect was immediately arrested, while the recovered ammunition has been taken into custody for further investigation.

Troops have also commenced follow-up operations aimed at identifying and arresting other members of the criminal network linked to the arms supply.

The 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE has reassured residents of Plateau State of its continued commitment to protecting lives and property. Members of the public have been urged to remain vigilant and support security efforts by providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing operations aimed at sustaining peace and security across the state.
