Troops Kill Six Terrorists, Rescue Abducted Minor in Major Zamfara Forest Offensive
Troops of the 8 Division Garrison Strike Force under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Sector 2, have recorded major successes during a sustained offensive against terrorists in the Sububu Forest area of Maradun Local Government Area, Zamfara State, neutralising six terrorists, recovering arms, destroying hideouts, and rescuing a kidnapped underage victim.
The operation, aimed at dismantling terrorist enclaves and restoring security in the state, began with a targeted engagement at Indulumu village, where troops made contact with armed terrorists and neutralised two of them after a fierce exchange of fire. An AK-47 rifle was recovered at the scene.
Maintaining operational momentum, the Strike Force advanced to Ruduno village, where further resistance was encountered. In the ensuing confrontation, four additional terrorists were neutralised. Troops recovered another AK-47 rifle, a magazine containing 28 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, while two motorcycles used by the terrorists for mobility and logistics were destroyed.
During continued exploitation of the forest, troops also achieved a significant humanitarian breakthrough with the rescue of an abducted underage victim, identified as Halira Ibrahim. The rescue brought relief to the affected community and underscored the military’s commitment to protecting vulnerable civilians and tackling kidnapping.
The offensive further extended to the destruction of multiple terrorist camps and life-support structures located in Magaji, Galakaje, Filinga, and Kukatara areas. These actions significantly degraded the terrorists’ operational capacity by denying them safe havens and logistical support within the forest corridor.
Military authorities reaffirmed their determination to sustain pressure on terrorist elements across Zamfara State and called on residents to continue supporting security forces with timely and credible information.
