Troops Neutralize Terrorist Kingpins in Sokoto, Recover Weapons in Ambush Operation
Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) recorded a significant breakthrough in the fight against terrorism with the neutralization of three notorious terrorist kingpins during a successful ambush operation in Sabon Birni Local Government Area (LGA) of Sokoto State.
The operation, carried out on Friday, 25 July 2025, between Mallamawa and Mazau villages in the Tsamaye/Mai Lalle District, targeted criminal elements who had reportedly stormed the area to extort ransom and levies from residents. The troops laid a well-coordinated ambush that resulted in the death of the infamous terrorist leaders identified as Kachalla Nagomma, Gurmu, and Ali Yar Daribiyar.
During the engagement, troops recovered three AK-47 rifles with magazines and a motorcycle belonging to the neutralized terrorists. Intelligence reports indicated that the neutralized kingpins had long been responsible for a string of atrocities, including killings, abductions, and illegal taxation across Sabon Birni and neighboring communities.
The successful operation has brought a wave of relief and jubilation among residents of Mai Lalle, Tsamaye, Rimaye, and adjoining communities in both Sabon Birni and Goronyo LGAs, who had lived under constant threat from the criminal network.
In a statement following the operation, the leadership of Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and stability across the Northwest and parts of North Central Nigeria. The Task Force also called on citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, stressing the importance of community cooperation in dismantling criminal networks.
Efforts are ongoing to track down fleeing accomplices and consolidate security gains in the region.
