Troops recover AK-47 rifles, other weapons during operation in Plateau

Troops of the Nigerian Army operating under Sector 8, Operation ENDURING PEACE, have recovered several firearms and ammunition during a raid in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The operation, conducted under Operation HARD KNOCK, followed intelligence received on 19 August 2026 indicating a possible attack on Mwar Community in Chakfem Kingdom, allegedly linked to the reported rustling of an unconfirmed number of cattle.

Troops were deployed to the area to search for the missing cattle and identify those allegedly responsible. Using drones and other surveillance equipment, the troops conducted searches across surrounding communities and bush locations but did not locate the cattle.

Based on intelligence gathered during the operation, troops raided the residence of a suspected individual identified as Pantong Stanley, who was reportedly absent when the operation was carried out.

The raid resulted in the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, one locally fabricated revolver rifle, two Dane guns and 15 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

The Army, in collaboration with the police and other security agencies, said targeted searches and offensive operations are continuing around the areas linked to other suspects.

The operation is aimed at recovering the missing cattle, locating additional arms caches and apprehending those suspected of involvement.

Operation ENDURING PEACE urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information on suspicious activities, reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace across Plateau State and the North-Central region.
