Troops repel terrorist attack on FOB Kasuwan Daji, rescue nine abductees as Army, Police lose two personnel
Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have repelled an attempted terrorist attack on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Kasuwan Daji, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, inflicting heavy casualties on the attackers and rescuing nine abducted civilians.
The military said the attack occurred at about 1:40 a.m. on 2nd August, 2026, when terrorists attempted to infiltrate the base under the cover of darkness. However, vigilant troops detected the movement and responded with coordinated firepower, forcing the assailants to retreat in disarray.
Following the failed assault, reinforcement troops launched a hot pursuit of the fleeing terrorists, who had abducted an unspecified number of residents from nearby communities during the attack.
The operation resulted in the successful rescue of nine abducted civilians, while troops continued exploitation operations to determine the full extent of the terrorists' casualties and secure the surrounding area.
The military, however, confirmed the loss of one Army officer and one Police officer during the fierce exchange of gunfire. Two other soldiers sustained gunshot wounds and were airlifted for advanced medical treatment. They are reported to be in stable condition.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA dismissed online reports claiming that six security personnel were killed, clarifying that only one Army officer and one Police officer lost their lives during the operation.
The military described the failed attack as another major setback for terrorist groups operating in the North-West, noting that sustained offensive operations have continued to degrade their operational capability, morale and freedom of movement.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining pressure on terrorist networks, protecting vulnerable communities and restoring lasting peace and security across the North-West.
