POLICE FOIL KIDNAP ATTEMPT, ARREST 8 SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS IN DELTA STATE

In a relentless effort to safeguard the lives of peace-loving residents, the operatives of Delta State Police Command have successfully apprehended members of a notorious kidnapping syndicate operating in Oghara, Sapele, Warri, and surrounding areas.


Following a tip-off regarding the abduction of a 43-year-old woman (identity withheld) on November 19, 2023, the syndicate, armed with tricycles, kidnapped the victim along Shell Road in Sapele at approximately 2100hrs. The victim, who was driving her ML-350 Mercedes Benz, was later released on November 22, 2023, after the payment of a Two Million Naira (#2,000,000) ransom.


Commissioner of Police, CP Wale Abass, instructed the CP - DECOY Squad, led by ASP Julius Robinson, to employ all available intelligence to apprehend the perpetrators. Acting on this directive, the team, alongside the DPO Sapele, conducted a sting operation on November 25, 2023, resulting in the arrest of the syndicate's leader, Morrison Godwin, a 41-year-old male suspect from Okpara Water Side Community in Ethiope East LGA of Delta State.


Godwin confessed to the crime and revealed plans for another kidnapping operation. Acting swiftly, the team ambushed the gang members on November 26, 2023, leading to the arrest of Raymond Etchie, Felix Okoro, Oghene Ogaga Sylvester, Henry Edeki, Ominike Sunday, Jerusalem Sunday, and Theophilus Akpofi. All suspects confessed to their roles and were identified by the victim.


During interrogation, the suspects disclosed the location of the victim's vehicle, which was subsequently recovered in Oghara Town. Efforts are underway to retrieve the syndicate's operational weapons.


The Commissioner of Police, Delta State, commended the CP - DECOY Squad for their diligence, assuring the public of more successes in the ongoing fight against crime. He urged residents to trust and collaborate with the police, emphasizing that collective efforts are essential for ensuring the safety of Delta State. The Commissioner reiterated the public's role in providing crucial information to aid law enforcement in tackling crime effectively.
