US Evacuates Citizens From Nigeria

The U.S. Consulate in Lagos on 30th March 2020 has confirmed evacuation flights for her citizens from Nigeria. According to the Embassy, Flights will depart from Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and fly directly to Washington-Dulles International Airport in Virginia (Washington, D.C.).

It also stated that, each passenger will receive a confirmation letter sent to his or her e-mail provided in the evacuation request form if there is a prepared seat for the passenger. Thus passengers are advised to monitor their Spam/Junk e-mail as well.

Passengers are advised not to come to the airport not until they have received a letter indicating that there is an available seat for them on the flight, otherwise, they will not be allowed to enter into the airport

The anticipated cost for the evacuations flight is between $1,300 and $ 1,400 per passenger. It is a one way flight at expense of travelers which requires the passengers to sign a promissory note to reimburse the Government for the full cost of each seat on the flight.

Travelers will be responsible for arranging and funding their own travel from the Washington, D.C. area to their final destination, and for any return flight to Nigeria. The U.S. Department of State is unable to assist with identifying resources or providing funding for housing, food, or transportation in Nigeria or within the United States. Pets will not be allowed to accompany travelers as either cargo or in-cabin on this flight. Additional information will be sent out by e-mail regarding baggage restrictions with specific flight details. U.S citizens are urged to provide traveler information as soon as possible if interested in the evacuation flight. Passengers are advised not to follow up by e-mail or calls to confirm receipt of information.

The U.S. Embassy in Abuja is working to arrange a similar flight from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. Once a flight has been confirmed, the Embassy will release flight information and instructions
