US POLITICIAN WHO DIED OF COVID-19 WINS LEGISLATIVE SEAT IN NORTH DAKOTA
A US politician, David Andahl, who died of COVID-19 in October, has been elected to the State Legislature in North Dakota.
The politician, who was a Republican candidate, farmer and businessman, died on October 5 at age 55 from COVID-19 complications.
In a statement released by David Andahl’s family on his Facebook page, the deceased has been in Government for several years and was looking forward to the opportunity to serve in the State Legislature.
His aspiration was fulfilled posthumously when he was elected to North Dakota’s 8th congressional district.
Faced with a deceased elected official, the Attorney General of the rural Southern State said the situation would be treated in the same way as a legislator stepping down or retiring, and that the local Republican Party would name a replacement soon.
This is not the first time in US history that a dead candidate would win an election. In 2018, well-known brothel owner, Dennis Hof, was elected to the Nevada Assembly on the Republican ticket a few weeks after his death.
