WE DID NOT APPROVE GOVERNOR OBASEKI’S N1.5Bn LOAN – EDO LAWMAKERS
The 17 members of the Edo State House of Assembly have said they did not approve the N1.5 billion loan requested by the Governor, Godwin Obaseki.
This was made known in a letter addressed to the Managing Director of Access Bank, dated September 2nd, 2020, and signed by the Clerk of the House, Efezokhae Samuel.
The lawmakers warned the bank to disregard any loan approved by the other faction of the house, and described it as illegal.
The letter reads: “We are conscious of the fact that the request at this material time is frivolous and does not serve the interest of the people of Edo State. We are very well aware that the funds being sort for are to be used for the forthcoming election purposes.
“An oversight check has shown that facilities procured in the past by the government of His Excellency Godwin Obaseki have been poorly managed.
“I am to add that you must disregard any Resolution approving any loan from an illegal seven (7) Member House of Assembly sitting in Government House which has been operating against the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as well as the Rules of the Edo House of Assembly which deals with the issue of quorum.
“We have one House of Assembly led by elected Rt. Hon. Edoror, Victor Sabor As Speaker. Any other contraption outside this House of seventeen (17) is distraction, illegal and unconstitutional.”
