BOWEN UNIVERSITY SACKS OVER 100 STAFF

Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, has sacked over 100 staff in the University.

The University Registrar, Dr. K.A. Ogunleye, confirmed this to  Eons Intelligence today.

Dr Ogunleye revealed that the dismissal cut across all strata of the University.

Speaking on the timing of the mass sack, the Registrar reiterated that the pandemic did not cause the University's move; rather, it was necessitated by the need to change the institution's running model.

Bowen University, which started operations on 17th of July, 2001, had been running on a public university model since its inception, Ogunleye said.

"We observe that Private University cannot succeed using that model, and when you look around, there are some private universities that have been stretched. So one of the things the University has to do is to change its business model," the Registrar told Eons Intelligence.

"So one of the things the University has to do is to change its business model from the public university model where you have funds, paraphernalia of office given to staff, but we cannot sustain it. If we continue with that model, it will not be long before the University will run aground."

Speaking on the future of the University, Dr Ogunleye added that the management has adopted a technological system which would be unveiled after the pandemic.
