Gunmen Attack Ijegun Egba Community, Kill Two, Injure Several Others

Gunmen invaded the Ijegun Egba community in the Ori-Ade Local Government Area of Lagos State, leaving two people dead and several others injured.

The victims were identified as Gbenga Areagbo, a 40-year-old man living with sickle cell, and Oladapo Olukoya. The attackers, who stormed the area on Tuesday, fired sporadically before reportedly fleeing with the bodies of the deceased.

Residents, now living in fear, alleged that the gunmen came from the riverine area. Thugs also raided the jetty at Ijegun Egba, robbing people of their valuables and cash.

A resident, Kudus Fadiku, claimed, “The thugs were from Ibasa. Last Thursday, they attacked Wasiu Ademola from our community, inflicting injuries on him. They attempted to take him to Ibasa through the river, but Wasiu told them he was not from our area.”

Another resident, identified simply as Kazeem, stated that the matter was reported to the Satellite Town Police Division. However, just three days later, the attackers returned on Friday, targeting the Zone 2 area of the town.

“They were identifying members of our community with the help of an informant among the crowd. When they couldn’t find their targets, they robbed both residents and passersby,” Kazeem recounted.

Community leader Saeed Ayinde confirmed that the killings had been reported to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Alagbon, Lagos.

“The hoodlums arrived in three vehicles and motorcycles, armed with guns and cutlasses,” Ayinde said. “I was sitting with Lateef Arowolo at Ade Oshodi junction in Ijegun Egba when they invaded. They approached one of our young men and asked if he was Lateef. He shook his head, but they shot him at close range and attacked him with axes. They then escaped with the bodies through the jetty.”

The case has been adjourned until March 26, 2025, for further proceedings.
