GOVERNOR SANWO-OLU ASKS FAAN TO RENOVATE LAGOS AIRPORT

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has urged the management of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to renovate facilities in the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos State, the country's commercial hub.

Sanwo-Olu said this during a meeting with the FAAN management led by its Managing Director, Captain Rabiu Yadudu, on Tuesday, September 1, at Alausa, Ikeja as the reopening of international airspace gathers momentum.

According to the Governor, some of the facilities installed in the airport were due for modernization.

He pointed out the ineffectiveness of Internet facilities in the airport, saying the management needs to provide a fast free Internet connectivity within lounges.

He added that the passengers should not be bored with zero Internet or poor Internet facilities while waiting at the airport.

He said, “Travellers across the world are looking for destinations where things they enjoy in their comfort zones are provided. When we provide services and infrastructure that will drive traffic to our airport, not only will it triple the revenue generated for the government, it will also improve the status of the airport within the continent.”

Sanwo-Olu said officials of the State Government were working in collaboration with the Federal Government to ensure that passengers comply with all safety measures and guidelines.

While responding, Captain Yadudu, asked the Governor to assist in the provision of BRT buses to convey passengers from car parks to departure and arrival halls.

He also urged the state Government to expand roads leading to the airport and halt encroachment on the airport land around Ajao Estate and Shasha.
