TWITTER BANS DONALD TRUMP ACCOUNT, CITING RISK OF INCITEMENT

Twitter has banned US President Donald Trump from its platform, citing violent incitement.

"After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence," Twitter said on Friday.

"In the context of horrific events this week, we made it clear on Wednesday that additional violations of the Twitter Rules would potentially result in this very course of action."

President Trump had released two tweets on Friday which Twitter says violates the company's policy against the glorification of violence.

"These two Tweets must be read in the context of broader events in the country and the ways in which the President's statements can be mobilized by different audiences, including to incite violence, as well as in the context of the pattern of behaviour from this account in recent weeks," Twitter said.

Trump first tweeted "the 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!"

He also tweeted that he would not be present at President-Elect Joe Biden's and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris inauguration ceremony scheduled to hold on January 20.

Recall the Social Media giant earlier suspended his account for 12 hours following an invasion of the Capitol by Trump's supporters on Wednesday.

Shortly after Trump lost his Twitter account of over 88 million followers, the US president sent tweets from the official @POTUS Twitter account Friday evening which the social media platform promptly deleted.

The Social media company said it's limiting the use of @POTUS or @WhiteHouse account until it is “absolutely necessary.”

"For government accounts, such as @POTUS and @WhiteHouse, we will not suspend those accounts but will take action to limit their use. However, these accounts will be transitioned over to the new administration in due course and will not be suspended by Twitter unless absolutely necessary to alleviate real-world harm," Twitter said.

Recall President Donald Trump was also banned indefinitely from Facebook and Instagram after the Capitol violence.
