SUSPEND SERVICES TO LAGOS - NUPENG TELLS TANKER DRIVER

The management of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas (NUPENG) workers has ordered petroleum tanker drivers to suspend services from Lagos State with effect from Monday. 


The Union disclosed this in a statement jointly signed by the National President, Comrade Williams Eniredonana Akporeha and general secretary, Comrade Olawale Afolabi, which was made available to newsmen on Friday, August 7. 


NUPENG said the directive followed the failure of various authorities in the State to address three major issues that hinder the activities of petroleum tanker drivers.

The management heads said the menace of extortion of money from petroleum tanker drivers by various security agencies as well as containerized trucks at Apapa, Kirikiri and Beach Land axis of Lagos State hinder tankers from loading at depots and tank farms as part of its grouse. 


It added that the collusion of Government officials also impedes the activities of the tanker drivers.

“The entire rank and file members of

the union are deeply pained, frustrated and agonised by the barrage of these chal- lenges being consistently faced by petro- leum tanker drivers in Lagos State and are left with no other option but to direct the withdrawal of their services in the state until the Lagos State government and oth- er relevant stakeholders address these critical challenges,” it said.
