OYO APPROVES N59.7M FOR OPERATION AMOTEKUN TAKE-OFF
The Oyo State Government has approved a sum of N59.7 million for the take-off of the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN) popularly known as “Amotekun”.
The State Commissioner for information, Wasiu Olatunbosun, disclosed this on Tuesday, August 4, after a virtually held executive meeting.
Olatunbosun said that the State Government made approval for the procurement of 3000 units of uniforms, combat boots, lanyard, baseball hats, security belts, worsted boots, and the production of the logo to distinguish the personnel from other security agencies in the State.
Olatubosun added that the council also approved funds for re-accreditation of Adeoyo Maternity at Yemetu, Ibadan, as a fully-fledged teaching hospital.

The initial accreditation was withdrawn because the facility did not have the necessary equipment required for operations.
He said: “In pursuant of this lofty goal, the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria has visited Adeoyo Maternity Teaching Hospital and the team has notified the government of its intention to re-accredit it.
“Equipment to be procured include six hydraulic delivery beds, two theatres electronic/automatic table, one Laparoscope, one hysteroscope, one Colposcope, two CTG, two Ultrasound, four Angle Poise Lamps and one bowl anaesthetic machine.
“These equipment will cost N75 million and the facility should be ready before the end of the year.”
The Amotekeun is a security outfit based in all the six States of the South Western, Nigeria, including Lagos State, Oyo State, Ogun State, Ondo State, Osun State and Ekiti State, responsible for curbing insecurity in the region.

It was launched on January 9, 2020, in Ibadan, Oyo State to tackle the menace of kidnappers and other security threats in the southwestern region.
The establishment of the security outfit was subject to the decision by all the six State Governors at the regional security summit held in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria on June 2019 through Development Agenda for Western Nigeria Commission (DAWN).
Oyo State House of Assembly on Tuesday, March 3, passed the Operation Amotekun bill in law.
