MANY RENDERED HOMELESS AFTER RAINFALL IN LAGOS

At least 30 households in the Iragon-Iragbo communities in Badagry, Lagos are in distress as several homes have collapsed due to Sunday’s heavy rainfall, rendering many residents homeless.



The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, on Monday, May 25 said the incident rendered many persons homeless as numerous roof sheets were blown off.



Oke-Osanyintolu said that a team had been dispatched to investigate damaged properties and displaced persons, particularly elderly, women and children within the locality.



She also noted the damage caused on the prototype school in the community, St Patrick’s Primary school, which suffered extensive damage due to the torrential downpour. 


The Commissioner for Environment in Lagos State, Mr Tunji Bello alerted residents in March to prepare for 240 to 270 days of rainfall in 2020. 


According to the Commissioner, the maximum annual rainfall in the state is predicted to be 1,750mm.
