US CAPITOL RIOT: REPUBLICANS MOUNT PRESSURE ON BIDEN TO HALT IMPEACHMENT PLANS AGAINST PRESIDENT TRUMP IN THE CONGRESS
Colorado Representative Ken Buck has written to the US President-elect to formally stop House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) from proceeding with a second impeachment plan against President Donald Trump.
The letter dated January 9 which was also signed by six additional Republican members of the U S House of Representatives, asked Biden to intervene "in the spirit of healing and fidelity to our Constitution."
Other signatories to the letter include Chip Roy, Thomas Massie, Kelly Armstrong, Tom McClintock, Mike Gallagher and Nancy Mace.
The letter read in part “In the spirit of healing and fidelity to our Constitution, we ask that you formally request that Speaker Nancy Pelosi discontinue her efforts to impeach President Donald J. Trump a second time. A second impeachment, only days before President Trump will leave office, is as unnecessary as it is inflammatory.

"This impeachment would undermine our priority of unifying Americans and would be a further distraction to our nation at a time when millions of our fellow citizens are hurting because of the pandemic and economic fallout."
"We respectfully urge you to encourage Speaker Pelosi to set aside this partisan effort immediately," the Republicans added.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the United States of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi on Sunday night , January 10, wrote a letter to her colleagues stating that the House is prepared to launch impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump if Vice President Mike Pence and the cabinet do not remove Trump from office for inciting a mob that attacked the Capitol.
Recall that Buck among 127 other Reps in Texas previously signed a lawsuit seeking to invalidate votes from four battleground states and attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in favour of Donald Trump.
However, he did not join a group of Republicans that planned to object to certifying the electoral vote in Congress.

"The undersigned members of Congress issued a joint statement on January 4th opposing the objection, made by many of our Republican colleagues, to certifying the Electoral College vote," the letter says.
"We did so because we believe the Constitution is clear that the role of Congress is simply to count the electoral votes. The Twelfth Amendment does not give Congress the authority or discretion to disqualify electors based on its own findings or beliefs that fraud took place."
The Republicans added that they will work with Biden on health and economic issues and will attend his inauguration on January 20, 2021.
