EX-PRESIDENT OBASANJO APPEALS FOR LENIENCY ON BEHALF OF SEN. EKWEREMANDU AND WIFE
The Ex-President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo has appealed for leniency on behalf of Senator and Mrs Ike Ekweremadu.
In a letter addressed to the chief clerk which was dated 3 April 2023, the ex-president noted that he was aware of the current travails and conviction of Ike Ekweremandu and his wife in the United Kingdom resulting from their being charged with conspiring to arrange the travel of a 21-year-old from Nigeria to the UK in order to harvest organs for their daughter, he further noted that he realized the implications of their action which was unpleasant and condemnable and can’t be tolerated in any sane or civilized society.

However, Mr Olusegun urged the court to be magnanimous enough to tamper justice with mercy and let punishment that may have to come take their good character as parental instincts and care into consideration for their daughter whose current health condition is in danger and requires urgent medical attention.
