9 DIE, SEVERAL INJURED AS FULANI HERDSMEN CLASH WITH FARMERS IN BAUCHI

About 9 persons have died while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a clash between farmers and Fulani herdsmen in Zadawa village, Misau Local Government Area, Bauchi State.


The Bauchi State Police Command also confirmed the incident via its spokesperson.


The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmed Wakili, said nine people have been killed in the clash while six others were injured and are receiving treatment.


As gathered, the clash was over a piece of land in the village where the herdsmen have been grazing for several years.


According to sources, the land was to be converted to a farm by the Local Government, a development that did not go down well with the herdsmen.

A source in Misau told newsmen that the issue had been for a while now with the Fulani herdsmen resisting the move.


He said, “On Monday, the local council officials went to the place with security backing but the herders violently reacted and a clash erupted leading to deaths and injuries.”


The Caretaker Chairman of the LGA, Yar Gwaran, confirmed the clash on the telephone.



He said security operatives had taken control of the situation and serenity has been restored to the village


He added that anybody that anyone found culpable will face the full wrath of the law.
