POLICE PARADE SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS IN ABIA STATE

The operatives of Anambra State Police Command on 27th April 2023 at about 1950hrs paraded a gang of kidnappers who operate from a border town of Umuaku-Isuochi, Abia State.

The information available indicates that the operatives from Forward Operating Base (FOB) Aguata intercepted three vehicles- one unmarked brown Lexus Jeep, a black Land Cruiser Prado Jeep and one Silver-ash coloured while on stop-and-search duty at Afor Nnobi road.

Consequently, the armed men engaged the security personnel in a gun battle but three of the hoodlums escaped from the scene, while the remaining three were later overpowered and arrested.

The three arrested suspects in custody confessed to being members of the outlawed IPOB group. Also mentioned the various camps/criminal hideouts they operate from, including Umuaku- Isuochi, an Abia State’s border town with Owerre-Ezukala town and having about 30 members in their camp in Anambra State. Added that they move around to kidnap unwary members of the public.

The arrested suspects are: Chinonso Offor, aka Wolf, 24, a native of Enugu State, Hycent Ugwuike, 45, a native of Nsukka, resident in Onitsha; and Samuel Sunday Akpan, 31, from Akwa-Ibom.

Also, a University professor who was ambushed and kidnapped at about 1700hrs was rescued and his car was recovered.

Meanwhile, the operatives recovered three AK47, two cell phones, two bulletproof vests, two Walkie Talkie radios, one Police uniform (camouflage), four AK47 Magazines, 120 live ammunition, one Police belt, one hand glove, a pair of Police boot, two Police caps, one military T-shirt and one blue Police uniform.

Efforts are already in place by the operatives to arrest the other fleeing gang members.
