PERU GETS NEW PRESIDENT, THIRD IN A WEEK
Peru's Congress has chosen Francisco Sagasti as the South American country's new president, the third in a week.
Sagasti, a 76-year-old former World Bank official, was elected on Monday as lawmakers met to resolve political crisis, sparked by the impeachment of Martin Vizcarra and the resignation of his controversial successor amid protests which killed two people.
He was elected after winning 97 lawmakers' votes. Just 26 legislators voted against him.
Peru's former President, Manuel Merino, on Sunday, November 15, resigned following street protests against him.

His resignation comes a day after police disrupted and clamped down on protesters leaving at least two people dead.
Thousands of Peruvians took to the streets in days of protests against Merino following the ousting of his predecessor Martin Vizcarra, who was impeached on corruption allegations on Monday.
Merino, 59, resigned shortly after a crisis session of Congress called on him to quit power before 6:00 pm.
