BANDITRY: GOVERNOR BELLO MATAWALLE SWEARS BY THE QURAN THAT HE HAS NO CONNECTION WITH BANDITS, DARES OTHERS IN ZAMFARA TO DO SAME

Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara state on Sunday swore with the Quran that he has no connection with bandits who are disturbing the peace in the state, daring residents, irrespective of their status to do the same.

“I have sworn with the Holy Quran that if I know, or if I am part of, or I know anybody who is coordinating this (banditry), or with my hand or any of my family, may Allah not give me (speaks in Arabic) in this life,” Matawalle said.

“I dare all the people from Zamfara State, from our father, Aliyu Gusau to Yarima Bakura and all the cabinet members, right from the inception of the political dispensation of the state, to take this oat as I did,” the Governor added.

Governor Mattawale issued the challenge in Gusau, the state capital while receiving an award as the Khadimul Quran conferred on him by the Centre for Quranic Reciter, Nigeria.

He also urged that the issue of insecurity in the country should not be politicised.

“As I’ve been mentioning, the issue of insecurity is not just for Federal Government, governor or other security agencies; the issue of insecurity is for all of us, and we should not politicise the issue of insecurity.”

While urging other residents in Zamfara to take up the challenge, Mattwalle explained that it would be easy for residents to identify those behind banditry in the state and peace would be restored.

Zamfara, as well as other northwestern and north-central states, have been bedevilled by bandits who rob, kidnap and kill residents in the states.

The bandits in recent times have grown bolder and have begun the mass kidnapping of students from their schools. The recent being the kidnap of 279 female students of Government Girls Science Secondary School by Bandits in Jangebe.

The students were eventually released after spending about a week in captivity.

Barely an hour after the release of the schoolgirls, about 60 villagers were abducted by bandits in Ruwan Tofa village in the Maru Local government area of the state.
