(VIDEO) INTELLIGENCE REVEAL THAT CERTAIN NIGERIANS ARE BENEFITING FROM INSECURITY, KIDNAPPING- NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISER, MAJOR GENERAL BABAGANA MONGUNO

Intelligence gathered has revealed that there are certain individuals benefiting from Nigeria's insecurity especially kidnapping, Major General Babagana Monguno (retd.), the National Security Adviser on Tuesday revealed.

Major General Monguno disclosed this while speaking to newsmen after a national security meeting presided by the President in the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Watch the video below

"I need to stress also that there are individuals in the country who have assumed the status that is beyond what they should be, and Intelligence from our own sources, the Intelligence at my disposal and the disposal of other Intelligence has revealed that we have certain entities, certain individuals who are making Capital out of insecurity, especially kidnapping," the NSA said.

Monguno's statement is coming on the heels of the confession of a repentant bandit who alleged that the government provides bandits with AK-47 rifles to commit crimes.

The bandit did not mention the name of officials in the government supplying arms nor has the NSA mentioned the names of the individuals stoking the fire of insecurity in the country.

The NSA however sternly warned the culprit (s) stating that surveillance has begun and those responsible would be brought to book.

The NSA said: "This is a situation that has to be brought to an end and I'm sending a warning to anybody who is hiding beneath a banner of some status whether in terms of an official capacity or religious to stoke the flames of disorder will have himself to blame.

The government is very very serious about this.

But I want to stress once more that any individual or group that has taken it upon itself to cause disunity, disharmony, and to render this country… push the country to the brink should have a rethink.

Any individual who thinks he has any support and who thinks he can undermine this Government. Anybody, any human being as long as he is a citizen of this country, anyone who thinks he is the cat whiskers or he can be rocky on the perch and lead us into a situation of unhappiness will have himself to blame at the end of the day."

Nigeria is experiencing an unprecedented rise in banditry, especially kidnap for ransom crimes.

Recently, bandits have begun the disturbing trend of abducting students from their schools.

The first of such crimes that hit national news occurred in December where bandits abducted over 300 schoolboys from their dormitories in Kagara, Katsina state.

The boys were later released, ostensibly after an agreement was reached with the bandits.

On Tuesday, 279 abducted students were released as opposed to 317 school girls reported to have been kidnapped.

Governor Bello Matawalle told reporters that repentant bandits helped secure the release of the abducted girls and no ransom was paid.
