MALI DISSOLVES MILITARY JUNTA 5 MONTHS AFTER COUP
Mali on Tuesday officially dissolved the CNSP military junta which overthrew former President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta five months ago.
The military junta was dissolved by a decree signed by the transitional President Bah Ndaw and Prime Minister Moctar Ouane.
Recall that the dissolution of the junta was part of the demands made by the Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas) after the August 18 coup.
The regional bloc instructed member states to shut borders and stop economic relations with Mali until power is transferred to civilians and the military return to the barracks.

According to the transition charter, elections must be held within 14 months and the perpetrators of the coup would enjoy immunity and "cannot be prosecuted or arrested."
