EBONYI BULLION BANK ROBBERY: POLICE ARRESTS 7, INCLUDING SERVING AND DISMISSED SOLDIERS

The Nigeria Police in Ebonyi has arrested 7 suspected bank robbers believed to have robbed a bullion van and killed 4 police officers on July 29. 


Following credible information obtained from one of the arrested suspects, Detectives from the Intelligence Response team on Sunday, August 2, arrested 6 gang members including one serving military officer and a dismissed soldier. 


The Intelligence Response Team, in collaboration with the technical Intelligence Support from TIU, arrested one of the suspects, a 45-year-old male named Alfred Robinson.

Alfred Robinson, an Ijaw who is also a native of Gelegele Town in Ovia North local Government Area of Edo State, was traced and arrested in Asaba, Delta State.

The police recovered a stolen Toyota 4 Runner Jeep which was used for the bullion van robbery. Also recovered are: One GPMG Riffle with 153 rounds of live ammunition, 1 K2 rifle with a loaded magazine, and 51 AK 47 magazines.

Also recovered were 5 AK 47 rifles with 1402 rounds of live ammunition.

One of the AK 47 had no serial number, but the serial number on the other 4 are:

Less than 24 hours after Robinson’s arrest, the IRT detectives swooped on the other members of the robbery gang and arrested 6 more suspects. They are:

Sergeant Ayeni Samuel, a 43-year-old serving soldier who is currently attached to Command Day Secondary School in Nigeria Army Cantonment, Ikeja, Lagos. He is a native of Ilesha town of Osun state.

Corporal Emeka Harrison, a 33-year-old dismissed soldier who was attached to 7 Division Garrison, Maiduguri Borno State. Corporal Emeka, a native of Nsukka East local government area of Enugu was dismissed from the army in 2015.

Sunday Soyemu also known as Sunny, a 46-year-old Ijaw man who is a native of Alegnene in Ekeremor local government area of Bayelsa State. 

Emke Illo, a 37-year-old native of Igwachi community in Orji local government area of Enugu State. Police say he is the sponsor of the attack. Emeka was until his arrest, a resident of FH estate, Kubwa Abuja.

Abuchi Elijah popularly known as ‘Chime the Mosquito’ a 27 year-old male who        police identified as the informant to the Abakaliki/ Awka recharge card robbery. He is a native of Nsalangwa in Abia State but lives at Bonsac area of Asaba, Delta State and

Ibanifiroi Ekiene, a 38 year-old Ijaw man who is a native of Tombia community in Dedema local government area of Rivers state. 


The police say the 6 criminals came from different parts of the country to carry out a bank heist in Asaba this week. Some of the items recovered during the arrest include: 


A Lexus 350 Jeep with Reg no: AGL 267 FN (LAGOS0 which contains: 150 rounds of K2 ammunition, 5 K2 magazines, 12 locally made bomb (unexploded), 1 KPT power tool 230mm angle grinder, 1 Bigg Hammer, 1 small hammer, 1 big cutter, 4 different charms. 


The police say all the arrested suspects confessed to the Bullion Van robbery in Ebonyi state, as well as other armed robbery and kidnapping incidents across the Eastern and South-South States. 


All suspects upon interrogation confessed to the Bullion Van Robbery in Ebonyi State where 4 policemen were killed with many other armed Robberies/Kidnappings incidents across the Southeast and South-South. The arrested suspects also confessed that the 4 out of the Rifles recovered belong to the Policemen they killed during the Bullion Van Robbery in Ebonyi State. 


The police are still on the manhunt for the remaining members of the gang.
