COURT CHARGES COUPLE OVER THE ALLEGED KIDNAPPING OF 17-YEAR-OLD GIRL

A couple identified as Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Auta from Tudun Wada LGA in Kano State faced charges of conspiracy and abduction of 17-year-old Amira Isah Takai as they appeared before a magistrates court in Nomansland. Despite Inspector Fago Lale reading the charges, the suspects denied their involvement.

The defence counsel requested the court to release the accused on bail, citing a filed suit (K/M1833/2023) at the Kano High Court, presided by Aisha Mahmud. The suit aims to restrain the Commissioner of Police and the Divisional Police Officer in Tudun Wada from violating the human rights of the defendants.

Magistrate Ibrahim Mansur Yola clarified that the cases differed—one addressing human rights issues and the other an alleged offence. He emphasized that the defendants' remand was more secure than being at home. The case was adjourned to January 23.
