DELTA POLICE FOIL KIDNAP ATTEMPT, KILL THREE SUSPECTS, RECOVER FOUR AK-47 RIFLES

In a swift and decisive operation, operatives of the Delta State Police Command have busted a hideout of kidnappers who attempted to abduct the wife of a lawmaker, killing two policemen in the process.

According to a statement from the Police Command, the incident occurred on September 2, 2024, at Okoloba Junction, Jakpa Road, Uvwie Local Government Area, where the suspected kidnappers murdered two mobile policemen and the driver, Mr. David Imela.

Following the failed kidnap attempt, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, immediately ordered a water-tight deployment around Warri and its environs, as well as narrowing the roads and blockage of all exit points.

Police operatives from the Ebrumede Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Iwok Ndifereke, strategically deployed and created an artificial hold-up at DSC roundabout, where they sighted the vehicle used by the kidnappers.

On noticing the traffic and sighting the policemen, the hoodlums opened fire on the team, which responded professionally, considering the busy nature of the area. The hoodlums abandoned their vehicle, shattered with bullets, and escaped with bullet injuries.

Three AK-47 rifles and their operational vehicle, with registration number WWR-436-GZ, were recovered.

Determined to apprehend the suspects, CP Abaniwonda directed the DPO Ebrumede to go all out and ensure the suspects were arrested and brought to book.

Armed with available information and exhibits found in the abandoned vehicle, on October 3, 2024, the DPO Ebrumede Division led operatives to their hideout in Agbarho, where the Police engaged the suspects in a fierce gun duel.

Three of the suspects sustained serious gunshot injuries and later died at the hospital, while others escaped. An additional AK-47 rifle was recovered during the operation.

The Commissioner of Police commended the effort and bravery displayed by the DPO and his men during the operation and urged other officers and men of the Command to emulate them.

A manhunt is ongoing to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang.
